Take Out the Garbage
What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ
Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ
and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which
is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know
Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming
like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrections from the dead. Not that I have
already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for
which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.
But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward
the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Easter Reveals a Glorious Name
of Wondrous Love for Jesus:

I. From dark night, II. to gray dawn, III. to glorious “LIGHT!”
Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw
that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the
other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of t he tomb, and we
don’t know where they have put him!”… but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As he wept, she
bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been,
one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They
have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she
turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. “Woman,” he
said, “why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell
me where you have put him, and I will get him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him
and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for
I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am returning to my
Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the
news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her

Easter Inspired Faith

The apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon’s colonnade… Then the high priest and all his associates,
who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They arrested the
apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors
of the jail and brought them out. “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people the
full message of this new life.” At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told,
and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin—the full assemble of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles.
But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So they went back and reported, “We
found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we
found no one inside.” On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests
were puzzled, wondering what would come of this. Then someone came and said, “Look! The men
you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” At that, the captain went with
his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people
would stone them. Having brought the apostles, they made them appear before the Sanhedrin to be
questioned by the high priest. “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,” he said. “Yet
you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s
blood.” Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than men! The God of our
fathers raised Jesus from the dead—whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted
him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of
sins to Israel. We are witnessed of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has give to
those who obey him.”

tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the
face of the whole earth." 5But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building.
6The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they
plan to do will be impossible for them. 7Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not
understand each other." 8So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building
the city. 9That is why it is called Babel --because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world.
From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
